NBA 2k9: SLAM DUNK SUCKA!

Published by beelees at 11:18 am under Game Pre/Reviews! Edit This

I recently finished playing the demo for NKA 2K9.  Let me say that…  I played it, then I played it again, then my roommate and I played it, then I played it alone again, then I played it two more times.

To sum this up, the demo allows you to play as either the Lakers or the Celtics.  I, of course, picked the Lakers.  Being an Oklahoma boy, I was hoping for some demo action of the Thunder (My bad Seattle…) On top of that, you are only allowed to play a 5 minutes quarter before it’s over.

Does that sum up just how much I love this game?  So I had played a total of 35 minutes on a demo that maxes you out on a 5 minute quarter.  BRILLIANT!

Let me start with the controls.  They were fairly easy.  I think my 10 year old cousin could have probably picked it up.  Passing was at it’s finest.  Shooting, on the other hand, took a bit of a curve as I’ve been continuously playing these hack-and-slash games lately.  Pushing the button too quickly will (obviously) fake a shot, it has to be well aimed and the button released at the right time.

Switching between played was easily done.  Two things I had a problem with consisted of free throw shots (which I probably just pulled a Shaq!) and multiplayer passing.  Holding down the right thumb stick for freethrows left me giddy to release it, just to either brick, or completely miss the goal.  I didn’t seem to find too much of a problem in this, as it was just the demo and I was probably doing it wrong (Fail anyone?)   As for multiplayer, we had a ton of fun with it.  We went from 10 to 10, and pulled off a victory after they sank two freethrows, then we pulled a three pointer out with 1 second of play left.

The only problem with this, was you absolutely MUST push the manual pass button (you know, when it pops up with which player to pass) when you want to pass it to the other players.  Otherwise you will continually pass to A.I. that will end up in your control after the ball reaches them.  This is a bit annoying, but like I said, I was still able to pass the ball to Bryant (played by my roommate) with 3 seconds left to shoot, just to sink a 3 pointer and win the game (or the first quarter, whatever.  We’re superstars…  Ladies?)

Aside from that, it’s a rare treat when both of us are digging in our pockets for a spare $30 bucks to split the cost of the game and purchase it…  Because wouldn’t you know, the blockbuster by our house happens to be the only one with a single copy (Surprise!  It’s rented out!)

In my own thought process, I believe this game is one for purchase.  If you have Xbox Live, the game is also realtime up-to-date with stats, injuries, and trades.  It’s almost like being on the court with Kobe (or in my case, Kevin Durant).

Now let’s go hit some 3 pointers, baby!

Want to give the game a go?  You can purchase it now (At a low price!) and start beating the NBA’s best here:
