The Gaming Cove

It’s been an eventful few days, and I do have some new material!  (I know, I know: FINALLY!  Right?)

In the last few days I’ve played a few games that I haven’t tested before, and I’m going to give you the low down of each of them in the next 4 to 5 days.

Starting today with Wheelman.

This game is better than I expected.  Yes, yes it is.  Yeah a bald, muscley guy drives around shooting people and tearing up the landscape, it’s very much done in several games before (so the main character takes different looks in each game, but we all know this comes back to another GTA clone.)

Now while there are some dull points of Wheelman it does have some new things that I haven’t seen in too many games before (and some I’ve never seen).

One feature I liked was the ability to use your car as a battering ram to police (or cars you’re racing), not only in front of you, but also to each side.  This creates some cinematic effects with cars flying into semi’s, and ramming into medians, buildings, or whatever may be near!  It also shows the drivers flying out of the windshield, or falling into other cars.  Quite gory, but amazing none-the-less.

Another cool feature is a way of taking over other cars.  Some missions will have you stealing cars and bringing them back to a base.  How, but how do I steal a car Bee?  It’s going to be just like any other sandbox game, right?  Wrong!

Okay, well to a point you can jack cars just like GTA but there is a new way, and that way is by revving your car behind another car and jumping out of yours, flying through the air, landing on the other car, and kicking the driver out of his seat!  It’s really cool to see it done.

The little bit that I played did have me wanting to play more, and Wheelman does deserve some action packed hours of gameplay from any avid sandbox gamer.  With this one, though, I’m going to have to say that it’s a rental at least.  Give it a shot, and see if you like it!
